In this teaching on Losar 2013, the Tibetan New Year, Khenpo Sherab Sangpo guides his students in practicing Guru Yoga by visualizing Padmasambhava, reciting the 7-line Supplication to Guru Rinpoche, and chanting his mantra.
This teaching follows directly after Khen Rinpoche expresses his wishes for his students for the new year and for the happiness of all sentient beings; encouraging his students to dedicate themselves to developing their meditation practice and increasing their virtuous actions; recognizing that they can increase their capacity to help themselves and others on a daily basis. He reminds his students what the Buddha said to his own students, “I have shown you the methods that lead to liberation, but you should know that liberation depends on yourself.” Khen Rinpoche advises his students to train and watch their minds, recognizing their wrong motivations and intentions, and to know that by examining their mind, it is possible to turn their minds in a positive direction and walk the path of liberation every day. He also encourages his students to practice harmoniously as a community (Sangha) and to see that those who take refuge and practice together have a connection and relationship as Dharma friends with one another that lasts until enlightenment.
