Spiritual Process
punsam ekaha vai sadhya hari bhaktih kalau yuge
yuga antarena dharma hi sevitavya narena hi
(Padma Purana, Svarga Khanda 61.5)
In Kali-yuga, a person should accept only one process, that is devotional service. According to what process is decided for a particular yuga, that should be followed by everyone without fail.
- Chanting the Holy Name (Nama-Sankirtana): The primary method to destroy all accumulated sins and karmic reactions is to chant the names of Hari (Lord Vishnu/Krishna).
- Hearing Scripture: Regularly listening to or reading the Bhagavata Purana is said to burn away sinful reactions, including major ones like killing a brahmana.
- Association and Service to Vaishnavas: The company of pure devotees (Vaishnavas) is incredibly potent. It is believed that just as dry grass is consumed by fire, all sins are burnt by the touch or embrace of a Vaisnava.
- Meditation and Worship: Devotees burn their sins through consistent, daily meditation on the Supreme Lord.
- Partaking of Holy Remnants: Consuming food offered to the Lord (Prasadam) is considered a powerful purifier.
- No Punishment for Mental Sins: Unlike previous yugas, sins planned in the mind but not executed do not result in karmic reactions in Kali Yuga.
- Reward for Pure Intentions: Conversely, positive thoughts and intentions to do good are rewarded immediately.
- Easy Purifier: Devotees, through their devotion, become walking places of pilgrimage (Tirtha) and purify the world simply by their presence.
