The pāramitās, or transcendent perfections, are the six core virtues practiced by a bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism to cross over from suffering to enlightenment. These essential qualities are generosity, ethical conduct, and patience.
The Six Perfections
- Generosity (Dāna): Giving selflessly without expecting a reward.
- Ethical Conduct (Śīla): Living with moral discipline and avoiding harm.
- Patience (Kṣānti): Enduring hardship and staying calm in difficulty.
- Diligence (Vīrya): Putting joyful effort into good actions.
- Meditation (Dhyāna): Training the mind in deep concentration.
- Wisdom (Prajñā): Understanding the true nature of reality.
