I have received your letter dated October 5. “Money brings happiness” insofar as it is used in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. The body is undoubtedly a material machine, but when it acts in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, it becomes spiritualized. By Kṛṣṇa’s mercy, material energy can be transformed into spiritual energy, and spiritual energy is never contaminated. To be in Kṛṣṇa consciousness means to be situated in the spiritual energy. I shall write more about this in my next letter. I hope this meets you well. (Śrīla Prabhupāda’s Letter to Hamsadūta, October 13, 1967). ⸻ 68-02 To take a risk for Kṛṣṇa is very good. You know how the Society began in 1966—it was all very risky. I was alone, but I depended on Kṛṣṇa. Therefore, I think that if you risk $150 for Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa will undoubtedly provide you with whatever amount is required. Of course, you must use your own judgment and make the decision yourself, but I hope that if you take the risk, nothing unfavorable will happen. In the meantime, Upendra is being released from prison ahead of schedule, and I think that if he finds a job, he will also be able to help. Try to open the center, and let us depend on Kṛṣṇa’s favor. When money is required so that Kṛṣṇa’s mission may go on without interruption, we may use any available means. But this is permissible only as long as it is genuinely done for Kṛṣṇa and not for sense gratification. So you may try to earn money in that way. (Śrīla Prabhupāda’s Letter to Subala, June 12, 1968).
