Wisdom of today.

Sri Aurobindo (1872–1950) was an Indian philosopher and yogi. He believed the purpose of life is not to escape the world for heaven. Instead, his goal was to transform Earth into a divine reality. He called this path Integral Yoga.

The Evolutionary Goal
Sri Aurobindo taught that life is a continuous process of spiritual growth. Just as plants and animals evolved from rocks, humans are not the final step. He wrote: "Man is a transitional being." We are in between normal animal life and a new, god-like humanity. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
How Heaven Comes to Earth
He worked to bring down a new power of spiritual consciousness called the Supermind. [1, 2]
  • Mind vs. Supermind: Today, our human minds deal with limits, confusion, and division. The Supermind is a state of total truth, perfect harmony, and divine love. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • The Descent: Sri Aurobindo worked to anchor this Supermind power directly into Earth’s physical atmosphere so that material life itself could change. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Transforming the Body
Most old spiritual paths say the body is a trap or a mistake. Sri Aurobindo believed the body is the "work-chamber" for the Divine. Bringing heaven to earth means every part of life—even physical matter—becomes full of light, joy, and peace. [1, 2, 3]
The Mother and Auroville
Sri Aurobindo did not do this work alone. He was closely partnered with a spiritual collaborator known as The Mother. Together, they started the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, to practice this yoga. The Mother also helped create Auroville, an experimental township dedicated to human unity and bringing this divine life into practice.

“Sri Aurobindo who was once a mortal opponent of British rule in India, came to support the Allies against the threat of world-domination by Hitler.
