The meaning of the word Apocalypse.

 The word “apocalypse” comes from the Greek word ἀποκάλυψις (apokálypsis), which literally means “uncovering,” “revelation,” or “unveiling.”

It is formed from two parts:

ἀπό (apó) = “from” or “away from”

κάλυψις (kálypsis) = “covering” or “veil”

So, ἀποκάλυψις means “a removal of the veil” — the act of revealing something previously hidden.

In ancient Greek, it didn’t originally mean “the end of the world.” That meaning came later from the Book of Revelation in the Christian Bible (whose Greek title is Apokálypsis Ioánnou — “The Revelation of John”). Over time, apocalypse came to be associated with catastrophic end-times events.
