The Bhagavad Gita is a constructive science that helps us turn inwards. This human body and mind work as a machine. How can one operate a machine wisely without reading its user's manual? The Bhagavad Gita is the user's manual for human beings to function wisely in this world. But what is the purpose of functioning wisely, you may ask? One is that you lead a frictionless life, that is rid of stress, anxiety and disengagement. But the primary reason is to go back to the godhead. This may not resonate with you right away, but as one progresses in the journey of purifying one’s consciousness, one slowly starts to realise the faults in material nature and it becomes obvious to such a person that he is not the body and the spirit belongs to a better place.
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) said “Books are the basis; purity is the force; preaching is the essence; utility is the principle.”
So one must possess a purified consciousness to imbibe the Bhagwad Gita's teachings. One must also preach this knowledge to establish oneself in it and use it to liberate from material bondage.
The Krishna consciousness movement was initiated to assist people in following these instructions in the modern age. In a nutshell, the Krishna consciousness movement provides the seekers of truth with the tools for eternal bliss such as the Prabhupada's books, devotee association and most blissful practise of chanting the holy name of the lord- the Maha-mantra- “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare. Hare Rama, hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare.
