I am restudying the works of Sri Aurobindo (https://euacademic.org/UploadArticle/39.pdf) and am also rereading the Noble Quran. Giving to the poor is recommended in Islam. I alway keep these verses at heart :
“Indeed, Zakat expenditures are only for [1] the poor and [2] the needy, and [3] those who work for [devotion] and [4] ] for the gathering of hearts and [5] for those who are in slavery and [6] to those who are in debt and [7] to the cause of God and [8] to the stranded traveler. [This is] an obligation from God. God is All-Knowing, All-Wise. ” (Qur'an chapter 9 V 60).

Righteousness is not in turning your faces towards the east or the west. Rather, the righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Books, and the prophets; who give charity out of their cherished wealth to relatives, orphans, the poor, ˹needy˺ travellers, beggars, and for freeing captives; who establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and keep the pledges they make; and who are patient in times of suffering, adversity, and in ˹the heat of˺ battle. It is they who are true ˹in faith˺, and it is they who are mindful ˹of Allah˺. - Al-Baqarah 2:178
As both Pope Francis and Gopi Krishna stated : "All religions are true."
“Verily, those who believe and do righteous deeds and observe Salat and give Zakat, their reward will be with their Lord.” The Noble Quran Al Baqarah, 2:227
