In the triple transformation, the first emphasis is on the psychic change, the realization of the psychic entity or soul within. Its unfolding is the first step towards the spiritual change. As the psychic personality develops, the soul comes forward more and exerts its control over the being and the nature. Spiritual experiences can certainly take place before full and constant contact with the soul, but it is with the soul’s complete emergence that the way to the spiritual change is safe and sure. While it is helpful to differentiate between these first two transformations, in practice they intertwine and develop together, so that “psychic change” and “psycho-spiritual change” are sometimes used interchangeably. The third transformation, the supramental change, is the opening of an even wider aperture of spirit above the “lid of mind,” an ascent of consciousness into ranges of the overmind and supramental nature.
