Watching the movie "Holy Smoke".

I'm watching the movie "Holy Smoke" and it makes me cautious on the topic of sects and reminds me of the great teachers like Krishnamurti who always adviced people to gain spiritual and mental freedom and to think for themselves. Recommended movie, and interesting for discussion. In this context I find the atheist writer Dirk Verhofstadt interesting as well. He advocates secular ethics because of the wrong effects of religion sometimes, when they violate human rights, for instance. The Dalai Lama advices secular ethics as well. Something to think about. In some masonic lodges it is forbidden to talk about politics and religion, because it divides people so often. The only benefitial form of spirituality is inclusive and never tries to convince people of the one and only truth. I would never advice anyone to follow any spiritual figure or even a philosopher blindly. I intend to read the holy Quran in the following days, to understand Islam better and search for the positive things in Muhammed's writings. The greatest thing is just being human, with all your perfections and imperfections. We all are, so. Religion should make us better, I still have a lot of work in front of me and learn the most from everyone who crosses my path. This movie crossed my path today :

"Do not believe in what you have heard; do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations; do not believe anything because it is rumored and spoken of by many; do not believe merely because the written statements of some old sage are produced; do not believe in conjectures; do not believe in that as a truth to which you have become attached by habit; do not believe merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. After observation and analysis, when it agrees with reason and is conductive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

- Buddha

Anyway, I am going to read parts of the Quaran, to understand Muslims better. http://quran.com/
