"Sex, money, power, drugs - all may become forms of idol worship. When people take a drug trip with LSD or ayahuasca (even ayahuasca does not necessarily cause brain damage the way LSD, marijuana, and ecstacy do), they are getting spiritual insight from something other than God. Of course, there is no such thing as "other than God", as everything is made possible by God. But it really gives you a different message. You are not earning it from the eternal; you are taking something from outside yourself that activates it, so it becomes a form of "pagan" idol worship. One may become tempted to deify these astral entities that are behind the drugs, like people have done with ayahuasca. It blocks our evolution, which is deveikut with the One, an internal process.
